Amotherby Community Primary School

Phonics

At Amotherby, it is our aim for every child to be able to read by the time they leave year 1.  We want to create a love of reading through engaging the children in stories and seeking new and exciting books to engage the children. Reading is the gateway to all learning and early reading is vitally important if we are to help our children to read new and unfamiliar words.

At Amotherby, we teach phonics using the Little Wandle scheme, a complete systematic synthetic phonics programme.

Through daily phonics lessons, children are taught the different phonemes in a systematic manner.  Guided reading sessions throughout the week develop the children's ability to segment and blend and consolidate their recognition of graphemes that have been taught.

This page will give you access to a range of resources linked to Little Wandle so that you are able to support your child's reading journey.
