Early Reading
We understand the importance of reading and of early reading. It is our mission to ensure that every child is able to decode confidently by the end of Year 1 and that every child can read with fluency and understanding by the end of KS1.
Reading is the gateway to all learning and getting it right in the younger years is crucial in helping children access all areas of the curriculum and in supporting them to develop a genuine love of reading.
At Amotherby, we follow Little Wandle. A synthetic approach to phonics where the children are taught to read through the use of phonics. Little Wandle includes daily whole class sessions alongside three guided reading sessions focusing on decoding, prosody and comprehension.
