Miss K Cooper

Bonjour!

As MFL lead, I play a key role in developing and leading the teaching of French across the school. I support teachers with planning and resources, ensure progression of skills from year to year, and help make language learning engaging, consistent, and enjoyable for all pupils.

Learning another language is an important part of a child’s education. It helps develop communication and listening skills, strengthens memory and problem-solving, and builds confidence. Learning French also encourages curiosity about other cultures and ways of life, supporting children to become open-minded and respectful global citizens. Through fun, practical lessons, pupils gain a strong foundation that will support their future language learning and broaden their understanding of the world.

The intent of teaching French in our primary school is to foster a positive attitude towards language learning while developing pupils’ communication skills and cultural awareness. Our implementation focuses on engaging, age-appropriate lessons that build vocabulary, pronunciation, and simple sentence structures through speaking, listening, songs, games, and practical activities, with clear progression across Key Stage 2. The impact is that pupils become confident, enthusiastic language learners who can communicate at a basic level in French, demonstrate an understanding of another culture, and are well-prepared for further language learning in their next steps.
